PEZ Visitor Center

PEZ has been headquartered in Orange, Connecticut since the 1970s, and at some point they realized people kept showing up at the factory asking to look around. The Visitor Center is their answer: a big, bright hall attached to the real factory with viewing windows onto the production floor.

The headline is the collection: thousands of dispensers, floor to ceiling, claimed as the largest publicly displayed PEZ collection anywhere. Presidents, superheroes, the PEZ motorcycle, dispensers older than your parents. It's the Barker Museum energy, but for one glorious specific thing.

Every kid should stand in front of a wall of four thousand PEZ dispensers once. It rewires something. Mine went quiet for a full minute, which has otherwise never happened indoors.

On weekdays you can catch the factory line actually running through the viewing windows, which upgrades the whole trip. Candy being made is hypnotic at any age; knowing the candy in the gift shop came off that line is the closing argument.

There's a scavenger hunt for the kids and a trivia layer for adults, and the admission has historically come with store credit, which converts the entry fee into the gift-shop negotiation's opening bid.
